Prospective Applicants

Thank you for your interest in my research group!

I am currently looking for PhD students and postdocs to join my research group starting in Fall 2021.

If you’re interested in working together, please skim my research page to see what I work on. Find some papers that seem interesting and read their abstracts. Pick at least one paper and read it fully. If you’re still interested, send me an email based on the instructions below.

  3. A short explanation of why you’re interested in working together, how long of a postdoc you’re looking for, and when you will complete your PhD.

  4. The name of the paper you read.

Information for PhD Students at UCSD

Please send me an e-mail with the subject line “Interested in Collaboration (PhD @ UCSD).” In your e-mail, please include a CV and the name of the paper you read. Please also include a brief description of your research interests, and a few words on why you’re interested in working together.

Information for PhD Students applying to UCSD

If you would like to pursue a PhD under my guidance, please do the following:

  1. Apply for a PhD program at UCSD. A PhD program at any department is fine, but CS&E is ideal since I will be able to supervise your thesis. In your application, mention my name in your personal statement and in any questions about advisors. Finally, click “YES” on the question “Are you interested in pursuing graduate work in a Data Science-related subject?” This will ensure that faculty members at HDSI will see your application.

  2. Please send me an e-mail with the subject line “Prospective PhD Student.” In your e-mail, please include your CV, the department you applied to, and the name of the paper you read. Please also include a brief description of your research interests, and a few words on why you’re interested in working together.
